The Landscape

The landscape and natural environment of Noente y Codeso, Rio Ulla is an enchanting place. A beautiful river meanders through a thick forest of leafy trees, with the breeze gently blowing against the dew-soaked grass.

This area is characterised by a landscape made up of traditional crops, riverine forests and a series of rivers and streams that form the contours of the region.

The river forests are an important source of biodiversity, harbouring a wide variety of flora and fauna. Here you can find large expanses of oak, chestnut, holm and cork oak trees, along with a large number of birds, such as swallows, shrikes, blackbirds and wood pigeons. The rivers are also home to a large number of fish, such as trout, salmon, barbel and largemouth bass.

Traditional crops have adapted to this area over the years. Farmers have developed a number of techniques to preserve the balance between the river forest and the crops, which has allowed both to develop peacefully. The result is a unique landscape with a wide variety of flora and fauna, and a range of traditional crops that have contributed to the diversity of the natural environment of Noente and Codeso.

Birdsong mingles with the murmur of water flowing down the river, creating a romantic melody. The air is filled with a sweet, fresh fragrance, mixed with the scent of wet earth. A kind of magic floats in the air here, making every moment in this place unforgettable.

Noente Vineyard

The NOENTE vineyards are located in a privileged enclave, in the southernmost part of the Rías Baixas appellation. The location of the estate, as well as its climate, soils and exposure are optimal for the production of white wines.

The climate is humid and temperate, with an annual average of 14.5°C and a maximum average of 20°C. The soil, of granitic origin, is deep and rich in minerals, with a high concentration of calcium, iron and magnesium. The exposure to sunlight is excellent, which allows for optimum ripening and development of the Albariño grape, a variety specific to the area. The vineyards are oriented towards the Ulla River, which gives them their freshness and personality. We have Albariño and, to a lesser extent, Godello varieties in this vineyard.

In terms of viticulture, at NOENTE we work with trellis training systems, traditional in this area, with a planting frame of 1.30x2.50, so as to obtain optimum exposure of the grapes to sunlight. We use sustainable agricultural practices, with the aim of preserving the environment and the biodiversity of the area.

In short, the location, climate, soil and exposure of the NOENTE vineyards make this an optimal environment for the production of quality white wines, with unique and unrepeatable characteristics.

Codeso Vineyard

The other vineyard, CODESO, is in a privileged location, with a surface area of 6 hectares and an altitude of 195 metres above sea level. It is surrounded by chestnut, oak, holm oak and cork oak forests, and the soil in this area is very rich in minerals. The grape varieties best suited to this climate are Albariño and Godello. We have both varieties in these vineyards.

The vineyards are oriented towards the sea, which provides an optimum temperature for the grapes to ripen. This is combined with a sea breeze and an average annual rainfall of 940 mm, which guarantees optimum ripening of the grapes.

These D.O. Rías Baixas vineyards are located on the borders of the Ribera del Ulla, a region with a millenary history dating back to the time of the Celtic colonisations. This area is characterised by an Atlantic climate, with mild and rainy summers and an average annual temperature of 12.2ºC. These climatic conditions favour the production of wines with fruity aromas, body and structure.
